The Space Between Illusions

A photographic reflection

We have all walked through darkness, at least once in our lives. I have walked through it many times, and I know my journey is far from over. There were moments of hope, when I believed I had finally discovered the path. Moments when everything seemed to fall into place, when the lines appeared to lead somewhere. And then, sometimes without warning, they would break, cross, or disappear. Hope would turn to despair, certainty into doubt, and once again I would find myself searching for a way through. All the while, thoughts continued to whisper familiar stories. Stories about who I should be, where I should go, what I should achieve, and what my life was supposed to become. But how many of those stories were ever truly mine? Perhaps the greatest illusion was believing that somewhere, someone had already drawn the path I was meant to follow. That there was a destination waiting for me, and that finding it would finally bring me peace. Yet the more I searched outside myself, the further I seemed to travel from the very place I needed to discover\Until slowly, another understanding began to emerge. Perhaps the path was never meant to be found. Perhaps it was waiting to materialise from within. The darkness remains. The lines still cross, disappear and begin again. And I know there will be other moments when I lose my way. But perhaps peace isn't about knowing where every line will lead. Perhaps it begins when I no longer need someone else's lines to tell me who I am. And somewhere in the space between illusions, I begin to recognise my own.
